Something
very exciting has happened, our honeymoon has been booked!
I feel like it’s
been such a long process trying to get it sorted so I am more than relieved to
get it all confirmed. We had an idea of where we would ideally like to go on
our honeymoon very early on, only a month previous to getting engaged we had
got back from spending our 21st birthdays in Vegas and it was
amazing. We had such a great time but being with the boy’s family, including
his little sister, it did mean it was very much a family holiday and we didn’t
really get to take full advantage of nice restaurants or bars and things like
that.
We set Vegas as our ideal honeymoon destination and started researching
other places we could visit while we were there. There were a whole host of
places we considered such as LA, San Francisco, San Diego etc however when we
started looking at New York I got more and more excited, its somewhere I’ve
always wanted to visit.
We decided to get a few quotes for a New York/ Las
Vegas multicentre holiday and thought we would set this as the ‘dream’
honeymoon, it did feel like it could only ever be a dream once we started
getting some quotes back! We originally decided to start looking for an
alternative holiday, our top consideration was a tour of Italy, but then the in
laws put us in touch with their ‘holiday guy’ who worked for Dial a flight. The
process became quite long and at times frustrating, the hotels weren’t releasing
their prices this early yet the flight prices were going up, we didn’t want to
commit to the flights if the hotels were going to end up too expensive and we
were left questioning what to do.
However it finally all came together, we decided
to go for an alternative New York hotel and all the bookings were able to go
ahead. So here are the details:
On
the 10th April (just over 3 weeks after our wedding meaning we have
a lovely period to sort ourselves out) we will fly out to Vegas arriving about
5 in the evening where we will check in at the Palazzo resort. This was my
dream hotel to stay at as all the rooms are luxury suites and also I do love Italy
(hence why it was our back up destination) and the Palazzo brings some of that Venetian
style into the hotel. We get a sunken living room, a king sized bed, a private work area (although i'm sure as hell not doing any work!), the bathroom has both a shower and a tub and even a 17 inch TV!

A
week later we’re going to head over to New York. It works out well because it’s
an overnight flight so while we may be totally exhausted it does mean the
transfer isn’t actually cutting into any of our honeymoon time! We’re then
going to check into the Mave hotel.
When looking at New York hotels location
was my number one priority, I didn’t really have any other specific points. While
I wanted the hotel to be nice and clean I didn’t really have expectations of
luxury because luxurious hotels in central New York can be VERY VERY expensive!
There were a few hotels we were choosing between, all good locations, but the
boy and I had different favourites. I like modern minimalistic places and he
likes classic warm places. In the end we decided to take it out of our hands
and go for the one with the best rating on Tripadvisor and it was the Mave (a
modern hotel, hehe I won!).

We’re in New York for a week however during this
time we will also be visiting Washington! I’m pretty excited about all the
things we’ll be able to get up too and the in laws have already given us our
wedding present early, a cash gift that covers the price of a third of the
honeymoon, so generous!
